THE Scottish Open is well underway as snooker fans descend on Edinburgh - and there has been some shock early exits!
There will be a new champion crowned this year after Gary Wilson went crashing out in the first round, while world champ Kyren Wilson was knocked out after losing 4-2 to Stephen Maguire on Wednesday night.
However, Luca Brecel pulled off an incredible comeback to beat Ding Junhui before Mark Allen booked his last-8 spot with a marginal win over Jack Lisowski.
And as for Ronnie O'Sullivan the snooker superstar withdrew from the event just hours before he was due to play.

His disappointment was clear to see – even though he had also recorded an excellent victory over a four-time world champion Selby.

It sets him up well for his 7pm clash today with Ali Carter.

Higgins reveals major change to game
John Higgins has made a "massive" change to his game for the Scottish Open.
And after sealing victory in the first round of the tournament in Edinburgh, he toldEurosportabout his decision to change the size of his cue tip.
Higginsexplained: "I’ve gone back to a smaller tip and that is why I’m getting a bit more bite on the white.
"In the last few years I’ve been getting a 9.7mm or 9.8mm diameter tip.
"That is not good enough for these tables. It’s massive and it doesn’t sound much but I’m down to 9.4mm or 9.5mm.
"It is pretty similar to what a lot of the tours are on and I’m really happy with it.
"I’ve tinkered all these years. It would be different if I had stuck with one cue all these years. But I have not."

Allen on his biggest struggle
Mark Allen has revealed that his biggest struggle at the moment is with himself.
Speaking in an interview with SportsBooom, the World No 5 said: "I’m really struggling with myself if I’m honest. I’m trying so hard but it’s just not coming easy.
"I thought what I was trying wasn’t working so I swapped it mid match. I tried to speed up a little and went for my shots. I finished that first match off well, but some of that was lucky that I gave up the other thing that I’m working on.
"I just don’t know what to trust. I’m seeing things which are unnatural and your cue action I’m not trusting because I feel like I’m on the wrong line.
"I’m fed up of playing like that if I’m honest."
Allen will face Jack Lisowski in the last 16 of the Scottish Open later today.

Bingham to Brecel's rescue
Stuart Bingham came to Luca Brecel's rescue moments before his first-round clash with Julien Leclercq.
Bingham cracked the code to the former world champion's cue case after the Belgian was unable to open it himself.
Brecel went on to win the match 4-3 in Edinburgh and today finds himself in the last-16.
Speaking after his first-round triumph over Leclercq, he revealed how Bingham came to his rescue right before his Scottish Open opener, he said: "He cracked the code.
"I thought it was 009 to open the lock, but it turned out it was 000. So everyone knows the code now!
"It was Stuart Bingham to the rescue. If he didn't get the code, we were going to have to break it open."Copied

'Higgins couldn't do that again if he tried'
John Higgins produced one of the misses of the tournament.
And certainly the most unusual one!
Attempting to get out of a snooker, the Scottish legend's delicateshot from the baulk end somehow evaded a wide sprinkling of redsall around the bottom right corner of the table.
And having won the sixth frame to level his nailbiter with Barry Hawkins, Higgins never got back at the tableas the English ace sealed a 4-3 win with an 87 break.
On seeing the replay afterwards, a stunned Hawkins toldEurosport:"That’s just so unlucky, isn’t it?
"How close is he? You couldn’t do that again if you tried."
Match commentator Neil Foulds said at the time of Higgins' miss:"I can’t believe what I’ve seen.
"He’s gone round the back of all of those reds. How on earth do you miss all those reds there? This is unbelievable.
"You think he’s going to hit a red for sure – I can’t believe he’s missed them all. That is unreal."
